Ο καβαλάρης τ’ ουρανού

φάνηκε πάνω στην κορφή

κρατά στο χέρι την αυγή

και στ’ άλλο τη ζωή μου.

Το παλικάρι, το παλικάρι

θα ‘ρθει το βράδυ στις εννιά

βόηθα Χριστέ και Παναγιά.

Ο καβαλάρης του βουνού

φάνηκε στα σοκάκια

κρατά στο χέρι κεραυνούς

και στ’ άλλο αναστεναγμούς.

Ο καβαλάρης τ’ ουρανού

φέρνει μαζί του την αυγή

φέρνει το χέρι που σκορπά

και τ’ άλλο που θερίζει.

The rider in the sky

appeared on the crest

holding the dawn in one hand

and in the other, my life.

The brave man, the brave man

he’ll come this evening at nine

help him, Christ and the Virgin!

The rider on the mountain

appeared in the narrow streets

holding thunderbolts in one hand

and in the other, sighs.

The rider of the sky

brings the dawn with him,
